Registration for Mach-22 Launch Competition Now Live!

Registration for Mach-22 Launch Competition and Conference is now open! After a successful event this summer, Mach-22 Launch Competition will take place from the 22-26th June next year from Machrihanish Airbase, the second event in a series of student competitions supporting the site as a UK Spaceport Location.

The event, brought to you by Discover Space UK, UK Launch Services Ltd and UKSEDS, will give university students an opportunity to develop practical, hands-on mechanical and electronics skills, with industrial technical support provided to the teams remotely.

Based at a future spaceport, Mach-22 will include skills workshops supported by national space companies. The rocket-based event will see undergraduate students design, build and launch a rocket and CanSat - a simulation of a real satellite integrated within the volume and shape of a can.

Students who successfully participate in the event will improve their teamworking skills, practical and mechanical engineering skills, take part in rocket launches and gain an insight into careers in the UK Space Sector. Join us at Machrihanish Airbase from the 22-26th June 2022 to launch your way into success!

The event earlier this year, Mach-21 CanSat Competition and Space Skills Conference, saw 11 university teams from across the UK visit the site to successfully launch and retrieve small satellites within the dimensions of a soft drinks can (CanSats).

Mach-22 is looking forward to inviting the local community to join us on site on the launch day to see the rockets fly! (Covid-19 restriction permitting). Further opportunities arising next year include a Mission Patch Design Competition for Scottish primary schools, where the winning design will launch on a real rocket during the event, and a public lecture in Campbeltown.

Keep an eye on the site for more event information!
